Post Thanksgiving

After a week and a half of cleaning our home before Thanksgiving I needed a break. Saturday my husband and I slept until 11:30 a.m. We were wiped out.

We had the family over Thanksgiving. My son raised turkeys and we were blessed to have one of the turkeys for dinner. Scott had the turkey butchered and he roasted it. I made stuffing with the innerds. We had home made lumpy mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes plus a pumpkin and apple pie. Scott's wife made her cranberry sauce and a cake. My sister made the green bean casserole and brought rolls. My daughter made our family traditional chip dip and brought cheese and crackers.

I got a turkey that plays the chicken song a few years ago as a gag gift. Sidney and Mitch are holding the turkey in the photo. Sidney really liked the song and most of us tried doing the chicken dance. Note photo of my daughter Sara with Nora holding the Christmas stocking I made her.

Of course the Packers game had to be on for Tom and my brother-in-law. We decided to have the dinner buffet style but my mother insisted we say grace. Before any one was allowed to eat Tom and Kevin said grace which my mother couldn't hear.

One good or not so good thing about cleaning is what you find and don't really need any more. I gave a lot of yarn away. It took me two days to decide on what would go to purple heart and what would go to friends who make charity projects. The best thing was finding a missing check to my mother from my brother and sister-in-law. It was promptly ripped up because my mother wrote to my sister-in-law and told her I lost the check. The next find was my mothers diamond earrings. You have no idea how I suffered listening to my mother rag on me. The earrings were given to my mother from my dad and were the only thing he ever picked out for her. Don't get me wrong I understand how she feels but it has been a rough eight months hearing about those earrings and how I lost them.

My son told me what he wanted me to make him for Christmas. Nothing! My daughter-in-law said the one pair of mittens I made her were scratchy. She would like a sweater in a light weight yarn. I said it's to late now but we would find something after the holidays. Jeez, you can't please everyone.

In all I did well eating wise and didn't gain any weight. I didn't go without either.

Now I'm back to knitting my mother's Christmas stocking. I finished the socks she wanted for my brother-in-law and mother finished the sweater I wanted for Sidney. I told mother that she has to make Nora a sweater as she had a lot left of the yarn I bought.

On to Christmas. Since my husband retired he's become a real task master. To my surprise he asked if I wanted to put the big tree up as I have so many lovely ornaments that I can't put on our four foot tree. Will wonders never cease.

Your grandchildren are darling, and look like they are growing fast. It must have been a nice holiday for you.
